Episode 90: Yellow-breasted Chat in the Wildflower Meadow

Recorded on May 4, 2025, at the dogtrot, this is the sound of a lazy spring afternoon in the wildflower meadow, with a light breeze rustling the leaves of the Blackjack oaks. At the center of the soundscape is a male Yellow-breasted Chat, showcasing his extensive vocal repertoire—whistles, cackles, mews, catcalls, chuckles, rattles, gurgles, pops and more—strung together in ever-changing combinations. Accompanying him are the Tufted Titmouse, American Crow, Northern Mockingbird, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Brown-headed Cowbird, Red-winged Blackbird, Orchard Oriole, American Robin, Summer Tanager, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Pine Warbler, House Finch, Purple Martin, Carolina Wren and Red-bellied Woodpecker. This recording is best enjoyed in a quiet setting.
