Episode 87: Crickets & Mockingbird Night Song

Recorded on May 21, 2025, at the dogtrot, this is the sound of a lone Northern Mockingbird joining the nighttime chorus of crickets and frogs. Nocturnal singing is common during spring mating season and this male seizes the quiet night to both court a mate and defend his territory in a Eastern red cedar. In the still air, listeners can hear him cycle through more than a dozen mimicked songs, each phrase a borrowed echo stitched into his own performance.
